Bungalow Lounge, Dining Room and Kitchen Transformation
Transforming Houses into Homes
This project delivered an amazing makeover to the kitchen, dining room and lounge. The bungalow was in much need of a new kitchen but the challenge with all small kitchens is finding a way to add more space and storage. The solution to this was to remove the standard kitchen door and add a barn style sliding door. This not only created a stylish look and adds character, it frees up space in both the kitchen and hall.
The kitchen layout was reconfigured adding timeless shaker style units painted in beautiful pigeon by Farrow and Ball with the walls in a soft cream. Adding Corian worktops and integrated sink made the space feel light and airy, plus they are practical as the surface is non-porous, scratch and stain resistant. Floor tiles in a cream colour were added to complete the scheme.
Continuing into the lounge, the first job was to brick up part of the massive expanse of tired old patio sliding doors that extended almost the full extent of the wall and lead out into the conservatory. The doors prevented any use of this wall and limited the layout of sofas in the room. Reducing the size of the doors allowed a more flexible use of the room yet still ensuring plenty of natural light. Once the wall was complete new doors were added to create a more up to date feel. With the change to this wall a corner sofa could now fit with ease. The addition of a log burner added character and provided a focal point that really elevated the space. Moving the TV above the fire created more space making the room more welcoming and less cluttered.
Finally, the dining area was more zoned by adding bench seating to the back of the table and a dresser top made to fit above a chest of drawers.
The general scheme throughout was using muted greys and creams that created a relaxed calm feel that flowed through the rooms.
